Toolshed showcases a full-band sound, forming Americana and country-rock soundscapes and featuring guests like Louisiana legend Ivan Neville, bluegrass legend Joe Newberry, Travis Book of The Infamous Stringdusters, Grammy-winning fingerstyle guitarist MikeDowling, and Stanton Moore, the drummer for Galactic. Bluesy, funk, dixie, folk. Mostly songs from Winship’s pen, but drawing from over two dozen artists on a host of instruments, everything from mandolin to tuba, accordion to tabla.

“This recording was like a laboratory experiment, where I dawned my safely glasses and lab coat and flexed my studio editing/mixing chops. Lots of overdubs and musicians from remote locations. Plus I invited some other singers to take over the lead on a few numbers. This was a blast to construct in every way.”

Ben Winship Victor, Idaho

Winship plays mandolin, sings and writes songs. His musical stew is a mix of bluegrass and old-time, dixieland and blues. Gigs have taken him from Hawaii to Shetland, Anchorage to Ecuador, with appearances along the way at places like the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and A Prairie Home Companion.
